Glass Railing: FS 1500 vs FS 3000 vs FS 7000 Comparison

Wind load, glass thickness and mounting methods for frameless glass railings.

Frameless vs Post-Mounted Systems

Frameless glass railings (FS series) use a channel-mounted base profile with no vertical posts — providing uninterrupted panoramic views. Post-mounted systems (EasyMod) use aluminium uprights with glass or bar infill panels. Frameless systems cost more but offer superior aesthetics; post systems are more economical for large-scale projects.

Glass Specifications

All glass railing panels use laminated safety glass (VSG) — two layers of tempered glass bonded with PVB interlayer. Standard thickness: 2×6 mm for residential (FS 1500), 2×10 mm for commercial (FS 3000), up to 2×15 mm for high-wind zones (FS 7000). Each configuration is calculated per EN 16612 for the specific wind and crowd loading requirements.

Load Capacity Comparison

FS 1500: 1.5 kPa — residential balconies and terraces. FS 3000: 3.0 kPa — commercial buildings, hotels, shopping centres. FS 7000: 7.0 kPa — stadiums, airports, high-rise facades exposed to extreme wind. The system limit is determined by the aluminium channel depth, not just the glass thickness.

Certification and Standards

All VisioMod glass railing systems comply with EN 1991-1-1 (Eurocode 1 actions on structures), DIN 18065 (German staircase regulations) and EN 12150-1 (tempered glass). Structural calculations validated by independent FEA analysis (ANSYS). CE marking per EN 1090-1.
