What Are Brise-Soleil Systems?
Brise-soleil (sun breaker) systems are external facade elements that control solar gain through adjustable or fixed aluminium louvres. Unlike interior blinds, they block heat before it reaches the glass — up to 5x more effective for cooling. Available as sliding panels or folding shutters.
Sliding vs Folding Shutters
Sliding brise-soleil panels move on top/bottom rails, allowing partial or full opening. Best for large facade areas and linear designs. Folding shutters pivot on hinges, folding flat against the wall when open. Better for windows and smaller openings. Both available in horizontal or vertical louvre orientation.
Energy and Environmental Impact
External shading reduces cooling energy by 25–40%, making it one of the most cost-effective energy efficiency measures for buildings. Recognised in LEED, BREEAM and DGNB green building certifications. All-aluminium construction is 98% recyclable at end of life.
