A bioclimatic pergola is not garden furniture. Wind load calculation per EN 1991-1-4 is mandatory and must be documented by the manufacturer.
Eurocode EN 1991 has been mandatory across Europe for permanent structures since 2013. Part 1-4 governs wind actions. Bioclimatic pergolas qualify as permanent load-bearing structures. The manufacturer must document wind load resistance; otherwise liability transfers to the installer in case of damage.
1) Peak velocity pressure qp(z): depends on wind zone, terrain category and height. 2) Force coefficients cf: in closed position cf ≈ 1.3–1.8. 3) Total wind force: Fw = cf × qp(z) × Aref. For a 4×5 m pergola in zone WZ 3, this gives ≈ 14.4 kN horizontal load. 4) Base anchors and post connections are sized to this value.
Louvres closed (0°): roof behaves like a flat surface — the governing load case. Louvres open (90°): wind passes through, load drops 20–30%. Above 80 km/h, open the louvres. The optional anemometer on the Luxa 700 automates this.
For a compliant system: structural calculation by a certified engineer, technical data sheet (profile sections, wall thicknesses, alloy), installation drawing (anchor type, embedment depth, torque), and EN 1090 CE Declaration of Performance. Alcodec provides this set for all European wind zones.
