Wind load, glass thickness, anchor suitability and span limits — how to assess the technical feasibility of your glass railing project.
The most common mistake in glass railing projects is choosing aesthetics before verifying technical suitability. Building height, location, wind exposure and substrate directly determine product selection. Use Alcodec's free Engineering Pre-Check tool (alcodec.com/en/tools/engineering-check) for an instant assessment.
Wind pressure depends on building height, terrain type and geographic location. Urban 3rd floor: ~0.5 kPa. Coastal 20th floor: 3+ kPa. Rule of thumb: FS-1500 up to 6 floors, FS-3000 up to 15 floors, FS-7000 above.
VSG laminated safety glass is standard. 8+8mm for residential low-rise, 10+10mm for commercial mid-rise, 12+12mm for high-rise and coastal. The Engineering Pre-Check tool calculates this automatically per EN 12150.
